Sunil Birdy invited to work with the “England Lions”

Published July 15, 2013

Congratulations to Sunil Birdy, on being selected as one of Boccia England’s “Lions Squad” coaches. The Lions squad will consist the highest performing Talent Squad athletes, as well as some current England athletes.

We are privileged to have Sunil coaching our Boccia athletes, who have greatly benefitted from his experience and expertise. Sunil recently developed PACE Boccia, a Boccia England Level 2 Accredited Club. This club is for those athletes who wish to compete at more competitive level and under his guidance, athletes have been prepared for competing in the National Boccia League, at Regional and National levels and also for the England Talent Squad.

Sunil is also mentoring Alex, who recently gained a place on the National Young Coaches Academy for Boccia.

Sunil’s commitement and dedication to ensuring his athletes achieve their best , along with a robust training regime, resulted this year, in Alex coming 4th in the National Boccia Finals (BC1) and so qualifying for the British Boccia Championships. In addition, Jagjit, who has competed in the last two London Regionals, came 1st this year in his category (BC3). PACE Boccia took four out of nine medals at the London Regionals. Sunil has taken Boccia at PACE from strength to strength.

Congratulations Sunil!

When asked about how he felt, Sunil said…

It’s a real honour to be selected to work with the England Lions and be recognised for the work I do within the sport of boccia. I am sure this will develop me further as a coach and will also benefit PACE Boccia, hopefully we can push on and win even more medals next year! Thank you to the athletes, the volunteers that support me, PACE and Boccia England, for giving me the opportunity to reach this level of boccia coaching.
