PACE athlete medal success at the UK Boccia Championships

Published June 18, 2019

Congratulations to Reshad Saraj, who has finished in 3rd place at the UK Boccia Championships 2019.

Hosted at the Forum Sports Centre, in Antrim, Northern Ireland, the UK Boccia Championships was an opportunity for Reshad to add to his medal collection at this level, where he won a silver medal in 2018.

Reshad started off the day strongly, qualifying from his group winning two out of three games, scoring plenty of points and advancing to the knockout stages, which started early on Sunday morning.

Reshad’s semi final was against Claire Taggart, the number one ranked BC2 in the country, and a paralympic athlete who will be attending Tokyo 2020 with the UK Boccia Squad. Reshad has played Claire twice before, and put in the performance of his life, coming close to beating her for the second time, as she narrowly scraped through the semi-final, winning 3-2.

Despite loosing the semi-final, Reshad was able to refocus his energy onto the bronze medal. The atmosphere was the noisiest it has ever been, with all of the Irish fans cheering on Reshad’s opponent for the bronze medal, the Irish Scottie Cromie.

Reshad was able to use the atmosphere and adversity positively, as he elevated his performances even more, raised his adrenaline and dispatched of Scott comfortably, to win his second successive medal at the UK Boccia Championships.resh and sunil
