Mitchell Robinson gets one step closer to the BE Cup Finals at the Sheffield qualifiers

Published January 17, 2020

As we settle into a new year and decade – the first PACE Boccia and MSL session of 2020 took place last weekend to great success. However, these weren’t the only sporting events that were taking place that weekend. The first qualifier for the BE Cup Final was held at Ponds Forge Sports Centre, Sheffield.  Mitchell Robinson made the long journey to Sheffield to get his 2020 Boccia campaign underway and to the best possible start.

Similar to last year, players need 7 points to qualify for The BE Cup Finals.  Points are collected based on their position at The BE Cup qualifying competitions – the higher you are placed the more points you earn.

Mitchell, who kept his BC5 classification for this season, played a total of five Boccia matches. The BC5 category is full of strong, highly competitive, experienced opponents, where three out of the five games only had a point difference between them. Mitchell finished the competition in 4th place, just missing out on the medal positions. With that being said, Mitchell still did incredibly well to gain a strong foundation for qualifying for the BE Cup Finals, especially in a strong classification such as the BC5.

Match Results

  • 3-2 against Oliver C
  • Callum 3-2
  • Ian Pugh 8-1
  • L 4-1 to Amy
  • 3-2 to Oliver

Congratulations to Mitchell for gaining 5 of the 7 points needed to qualify for the Finals and with two more competitions in Hatfield and Crawley, there is plenty opportunity for Mitchell to book his place at the BE Cup Finals at in Sheffield.

Well done Mitchell on a fantastic start to your 2020 Boccia campaign.
