Alex Dukes kicks off 2017 with a silver in the BE Cup Qualifiers

Published January 20, 2017

This past weekend marked the start of the competition phase of the Boccia season for PACE.

Alex Dukes, our PACE Boccia captain, was the first to compete at the BE cup qualifiers in Guilford.

Stretching over one day, Alex played in four very tense Boccia matches. This was a new venue for Alex, playing on a new surface. Incidentally, it’s the same surface that was played on at the Rio Paralympics!

Alex played very well, winning three out of the four matches and finishing the competition in second place. In the process, he qualified for the next round of competition in March, the BE Cup Playoffs.

The final was very close against Andrew Morgan, a former England international and a accomplished player. Andrew managed to take a point in each of the first two ends. In the third end, Alex managed to net three points after playing a short Jack and nailing the first ball. Going into the last end Alex wax 3-2 up and playing well.

Unfortunately for Alex, Andrew played a great first ball in the final end and managed to earn 2 points, winning the match 4-3.

We would like congratulate Alex on a successful competition and hope this the success continues! The next major competition will be the Heathcoat cup, on the 5th February 2017 in Hatfield. This competition will see Mitchell Robinson make his debut for PACE Boccia.
